Perfect Imperfection
This is the first and only Zine I ever made, as part of my Professional Writing and Publishing Degree. It was one of my favourite assignments and I have always dreamt of continuing with the concept and outlet.
Zines are self published and distributed little magazines that represent a raw and authentic reflection of a creator's time and place. The Zeitgeist, the spirit of the times. They are very personal and give voice to small and intimate cultural groups. Zines have been in circulation pretty much since the invention of the printing press in the 1400’s. Wikipedia has a great outline of the history of the application.
Celebrating the spectacularly wonderful, oddball world we inhabit, both inside and out.
The elephants on parade, ha, just occurred to me what that might refer to.
Perfect Imperfection lets us parade our elephants proudly and joyously.
Wait up… I need to draw a picture of that, somewhere between Playschool's balancing elephants and Pamela Allen's Bertie and the Bear marching band…
All those looming shadow dwellers, that stuff we avoid speaking about or even thinking about, the elephants in the room that we cringe to address. Dance into the light. Don’t be afraid, we all have them and they all came from the same fear monger. We can look at them together. This is the work, that which is never done, the constant transformation of the self. The unveiling of the philosopher's stones, our transformed hearts, capable of transforming fear into joy, lead into gold.
We are all perfectly imperfect and it’s a beautiful thing. Let us rejoice in the beauty.
